Who We Are

The Bridge is a service of the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) Volunteer Mobilization Team.

An agency of the Southern Baptist Convention (www.sbc.net), NAMB’s (www.namb.net) primary assignment is to assist Southern Baptist state conventions, associations, and churches in the U.S. and Canada with evangelism and church planting.

The Volunteer Mobilization Team (www.namb.net/vols) exists primarily to facilitate short-term group mission trips among Southern Baptists. Annually, more than 370,000 Southern Baptists participate in short-term mission projects away from home, as reported by the Annual Church Profile.

The Bridge represents the Volunteer Mobilization Team’s primary strategy for servicing short-term mission trips, which typically last one week. Through The Bridge, information is exchanged between Southern Baptist missionaries, church planters, ministry centers, and churches that need volunteers, and Southern Baptist churches looking for short-term mission opportunities.

While group mobilization represents the largest segment of mission volunteerism served by the Volunteer Mobilization Team, short-term assignments are also available for individuals. These typically last from one week to four months.

Besides The Bridge, the Volunteer Mobilization Team offers specific mobilization ministries.

Students

World Changers (www.world-changers.net) – World Changers is a pre-packaged youth mission trip that focuses on the rehabilitation of sub-standard housing. Some projects also include community-based, non-construction ministries. Annually, World Changers mobilizes more than 25,000 people.

PowerPlant (www.power-plant.net) – PowerPlant is a pre-packaged youth mission trip where participants are taught evangelism skills and church planting principles. They work alongside church planters on ministry teams doing survey work, VBS, sports camps, servant evangelism, and more.

Student Mission Groups (www.studentmissiontrips.net) – SMGs are self-directed student mission trips. Typically, a church seeks a mission opportunity through The Bridge and makes all the logistical arrangements with their eventual host.

Adults

Disaster Relief (www.namb.net/dr) – Southern Baptists are one of the largest non-government organizations performing disaster services in the United States. NAMB performs a coordinating role for the state Baptist conventions, where disaster relief volunteers are recruited, trained, and activated for service.

Baptist Builders (www.namb.net/bbuilders) – Each year, Southern Baptist volunteers build more than 300 churches in support of church planting efforts. An estimated 85,000 volunteers participate in volunteer church building each year, representing Southern Baptists largest Pathway to missions.

Adult Mission Groups (www.namb.net/vols) –AMGs are self-directed adult mission trips. Typically, a church seeks a mission opportunity through The Bridge and makes all the logistical arrangements with their eventual host.

Campers on Missions (www.namb.net/campersonmission) – COM are mission volunteers who typically live and or travel in a recreational vehicle. While most COM members belong to state COM organizations, many go to The Bridge to find their next assignment. Many stay on the road six to nine months a year doing mission projects.

Families on Mission (www.namb.net/fom) – Families on Mission is a pre-packaged, week-long family mission opportunity that allows mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncles to model an on-mission lifestyle for their children and grandchildren. Parents have the unique privilege to be "hands on" as they guide their family through devotions, missions awareness, mission projects, worship, family small-group discussions, and interaction with resident missionaries and the community. Mission activities include acts of kindness and other evangelism events, light construction and painting, yard work, prayer walking, and others.
